Many years ago, the first young writers camp began in Hillsborough County with the I.C.E. (Imaginative Creative Explorers) camp, under the legendary TBAWP leadership of Jennifer Albritton. A whole new element, F.I.R.E., was needed when we headed north to Pasco County in 2008. Fourteen pioneer authors defined the camp’s name, designed the logo, created a slogan, and began traditions upon which all future F.I.R.E. Writers build. F.I.R.E is open to students who’ve completed third grade through juniors in high school.
Like I.C.E., we’ve created an environment in which writers feel safe to explore their abilities and receive feedback on the writing process from their peers and Tampa Bay Area Writing Project Consultants (TBAWP). Please note that this is not a remedial camp; rather it is fast-paced and vigorous with lessons that are in-depth and challenging.
2019 camp dates: June 17th-27th (Monday-Thursday)
It will be held from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Weightman Middle School
