E.A.R.T.H.

Elevating Anthologies to Reach Today’s High-standards is a program that works in conjunction with I.C.E. Writers, F.I.R.E. Writers and W.A.T.E.R. All the works created by the young authors attending those programs is anthologized into the TBAWP Youth Program’s Annual Publication, The Catalyst. Detailed below, we offer an introductory camp for layout and design, an advanced camp, and editorial internships.

This program is perfect for:

  • Middle and High School Students in or entering yearbook, newspaper and literary magazine classes
  • Students in publication courses looking to “up their game” whether to improve their editor resumes or gain valuable experience before submitting to competitions such as FSPA, NSPA, Scholastic Art and Writing, Columbia Press, etc.
  • Students looking to expand their portfolios and repertoire of creative work
  • Students looking for that same sense of community they feel from their publication class

Publication and Design Camps

In 2020, we are offering two one-week camps for students interested in learning skills related to publishing, layout and design. Bracketing the summer, these two camps will offer different curriculums for different skill levels, as these campers create unique layouts and collaborate to produce The Catalyst Youth Writers Annual Anthology.

Intro Camp – June 8-12

Accepting campers going into 7th grade through those going into 12th grade, this camp is perfect for young people interested in learning about layout and design who are going into or interested in joining a school’s publication class such as yearbook, newspaper or literary magazine.

Advanced Camp – July 27-31

Accepting campers going into 7th grade through those going into 12th grade, this camp is perfect for young people interested in learning about layout and design who have experience with inDesign, Microsoft Publisher or another such program. This camp is perfect for students seeking to expand their skills and develop their portfolio. Perfect for students already in a publication class or seeking to earn an editorial position in such a class.

The Catalyst

Every year, the creative work of our campers is collected into the youth anthology. Before E.A.R.T.H, all we had was the hard work of a few facilitators and maybe a teenaged-volunteer producing what worked for years: a spiral combing-bound stack of copy paper. Now, thanks to the hard work of our campers, we produce a high-quality, professionally printed anthology dubbed by the first group of E.A.R.T.H. campers The Catalyst.
