Moonlit Memory

by Gabriela Salazar
inspired by TBAWP’s 2020 freewrite

When the moon was out
You were carefree
You took my hand,
Spinning me around
Pulling me close
Slow dancing
In the dark, half-empty parking lot
You didn’t care about your friends watching,
Just about keeping us on beat
To the silent song
I swayed with you
Wishing our dance would never end
Our pealing laughter echoes in my mind
Your twinkling dark eyes,
Your mischievous smile,
Your rolled up white sleeves,
The warmth of your hands on my waist,
Are all seared into my memory
I can hardly face the moon anymore
It reminds me too much of you.
