For the second week of W.A.T.E.R, our theme is World Building. Every writer has to create a fictional world around their text, particularly those writer science fiction and fantasy. So much goes into these worlds that is rarely ever seen on the page.
As an introductory activity, the writers drew a map of an important location. They shared their maps with the rest of the group. Many chose their bedrooms and houses, and each writer had to explain what they learned about another camper in the class after the presentations.

Afterwards, we explored visual and textual representations of popular literary worlds before students began working on their own examples. They worked so hard that they wouldn’t even completely stop for a lunch break or games! They were willing to take a short break to play a round of Kahoot online, and the battle has begun for the coveted Water Bowl trophy. Which team will win? I guess we will find out.
