By any other name would smell as sweet;
-Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
Our first day was amazing! Our focus was on getting to know each other and we had a great time doing so. We opened our day with decorating our writer’s notebooks with pictures, stickers and tape. Then we introduced ourselves by turning our names into art. Sticking with the theme of names we talked about how names can have power and really help us connect with characters, like a tree named Steve.
In the afternoon we wrote about our names, including how we got our names and what they mean. We shared in author’s chair and then took some time to find out what we had in common with our table group. We came up for group names, mottos and illustrations to represent us.

At the end of the day, the tradition is for campers to complete a ‘Lesson Learned’ and ‘Quote of the Day’ post-it note. The facilitators choose the best one from each category and here they are:
Lesson Learned: Names are powerful. They give personality and feeling to many things.
Quote of the Day: “Just Deal With It!” -Brianna (definitely said with humor)
